The photos below show the head and water jacket surfaces of an engine
with only 190 hours of flight time. This engine was sent to Vertical
Performance Systems, LLC for complete overhaul and conversion
to the new Vertical Performance
Systems, LLC power plant. In the photos you can see
the ring that is supposed to seal the cylinder sleeve to the head and
also where the seal failed.
The owner of this engine was flying when the engine began to overheat
and loose power. He made a successful low-power landing and then removed
the engine for conversion. This engine will be one of several Beta test
engines that Vertical Performance
Systems, LLC will be flying to prove the performance
and integrity of our new powerplant for the experimental helicopter
and airplane market.Vertical
Performance Systems, LLC is planning on having our engine
conversions available to the public beginning in the summerof 2010 following
our intensive flight test program completion. We will be testing our
150hp normally aspirated engine as well as our 237hp tubocharged engine.
We will continue to post updates on this web site as we feel we are
ready to share them.
Due to the unfortunate lack of integrity of a few in this industry
who have already stolen some of our technology, Vertical
Performance Systems, LLC will be very guarded in releasing
the specifics of our engine work until it is ready to market. We look
forward to providing the kit helicopter industry with engine and drive
train alternatives that will enhance their flying experience.
