Vertical Performance Systems, LLC has paid for the design and engineering for every component shown on this web site and holds ownership of all intellectual property for each component
The photo below is of a Stock Rotorway engine head that was leaking oil and antifreeze between the head and the cylinder after only 190 hours of operation. This engine lost power during flight and caused a forced landing. Russ Platt, the owner sent the engine to Vertical Performance Systems, LLC for a total retrofit into the new Vertical Performance Systems, LLC normally aspirated engine system. Check out the first beta test engine page link from the index to see the numbers that this engine now produces as a VPS engine.
The below photo shows the water jacket that was leaking on the same Rotorway engine that failed in flight while Russ Platt was flying. These steel water Jackets are prone to disimilar metal corrosion. They also expand and contract at different rates due to the different coeficients of expansion of the steel sleeve and aluminum water jackets. The new Vertical Performance Systems, LLC cylinders will not do this because of the material that they are made of.
The below photo shows the cylinder wear pattern that occurs on a stock Rotorway engine leading to loss of compression and blow-by. These cylinder sleeves that were removed from a stock engine were several thoudands of an inch out of round when received by Vertical Performance Systems, LLC.
